Team Ireland releases Eventing Shortlist for London 2012

A shortlist of 10 riders and 11 horses has been put together for Olympic consideration by Team Ireland Equestrian's manager Ginny Elliot.

As of now (12th June) Ireland has 3 eventing places secured for the London 2012 Olympics. The hope is that this will go up to 4 or 5 riders on June 17th, but it all depends on whether other countries with secured Olympic places will have enough sufficient eligible combinations to compete.

On the 2nd of July, Ginny Elliot will nominate the combinations for selection to the Olympic Council of Ireland.

The shortlisted combinations are:

  • Aoife Clark (Master Cruise)
  • Capt Geoff Curran (Shanaclough Crecora and The Jump Jet)
  • Jayne Doherty (Ravenstar)
  • Sarah Ennis (Sugar Brown Babe)
  • Mark Kyle (Coolio)
  • Joseph Power (Electric Cruise)
  • Elizabeth Power (September Bliss)
  • Michael Ryan (Ballylynch Adventure)
  • Camilla Speirs (Portersize Just a Jiff)
  • Sam Watson (Horseware Bushman)

Ginny Elliot said the decision to come up with a list of 10 riders was extremely difficult following a fantastic weekend at Tattersalls with many riders giving strong performances but is said to be pleased with the shortlist.

All this Olympic talk has gotten me so excited and looking forward to it. Here's hoping there is some decent coverage of it on the TV since I'm not lucky enough to be there to see it in person :(
