RDS Dublin Horse Show 2011 - Irish Draught Stallions

I headed into Dublin last week to go to the RDS Dublin Horse Show ... definately a horsey highlight of the year for me! I was there on Thursday which of course means Blossom Hill Ladies' Day, I didn't get particualarly dressed up as I went on the spur of the moment ... but there were some fabulous ladies, dresses and fascinators on show. The winner, Yvette Byrne from Co. Carlow, wore a dress she designed herself! The prize included a trip to California and Napa Valley (home of Blossom Hill) worth €10,000 and she even gets €1,000 spending money! Lucky lady ... I really have to make the effort next year and look the part!

Thursday also means the Irish Draught Stallion parade ... a breed I adore and go a bit loopy for! There were 13 stallions in the parade and they were all stunning, well behaved and have such a presence about them. The judging class was on Friday so I missed that. I did however jot down who I thought should make the top 3 and was really happy to find I got 2 out of the 3 right! Let's hope my eye for great stallions stays with me in the future! I took a few photos so thought I'd share :)

Some fantastic looking horses in there and I know which stallions I have my heart set on to use in the future! I was always a big Cappa Casanova fan but I really liked the look of Tors Gentleman Farmer and was thrilled when he won. I was surprised that Gortfree Hero wasn't placed but I didn't see the class so maybe he wasn't on form on the day? It's a class I would really like to see myself competing in sometime in the future with a lovely big RID that I bred myself ...  ahhh a girl can dream!

The results :
1st - 285 Tors Gentleman Farmer
2nd - 306 Cappa Casanova
3rd - 287 Cappa Cochise
4th - 282 Clewbay Bouncer
5th - 284 Moylough Bouncer
6th - 283 Heigh Ho Dubh
Reserve - 286 Ballineen It's William
Looking forward to next year already!
